I think I may be done

I think I am finally bored with DAoC. I really don't like the direction the new expansion is going; I definitely want to take the guild leader hat off. I have wanted the latter for a while, but kept going. The guild is going really well right now, but the game itself . . . it just feels so effortful, so laborious to log on, and a game shouldn't be that way.

I think I have an exit strategy, but it is going to be hard to tell folks.

That's a hard position to be in and ultimatly it's the thing I dread most about any MMO. Where I sit in front of my computer and feel like a little kid being dragged into school by his mother when I think about logging into the game. That happened to me with DAOC, where I'd sit there thinking about logging in and then I'd ask myself "What for? All I'll do is run 15 min to some dungeon and maybe spend 30 min just finding a group, and IF (a big if) the group is good I may get something done". And that would go on and on until I loaded up Battlefield 1942 or something like that.

I was really disappointed in how fast I got to that point with SWG. I put in a lot of effort trying to hook up with good players too but they really just never came.

I hope you're able to get out gracefully. Good luck.

After talking about it with my guild, we're all kind of in a holding pattern, waiting to see how World of Warcraft shapes up. Instanced dungeons sound kind of nifty. I'm hoping David gets in the beta so I can look over his shoulder.

Yep WOW looks interesting. Just about everyone I know registered for the beta there. Instanced dungeons sound interesting too. They did that in Anarchy Online but it didn't turn out so well at first because of a general lack of flavor, content, and a ton of bugs. Instancing seems to be the new fad in MMOs with several upcomming games including it like MEO, and even COH. Mytical was suppose to be the kind of instanced settings with a small realms belonging to players as accessed controlled instances, but of course that game has gone the way of the DooDo bird. Time will tell.
