Be seeing you

Reading Neil Gaiman's blog is generally informative, but for me this is a particularly good link:

1967 - 68: The Prisoner

I know it has influenced everything from Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica to The Simpsons, but I've never actually gotten to see it, although it has been in my Netflix queue for a while. I'm hoping to find time to watch it during the next few weeks, and thought I'd pass the link along in case others were interested.

It's deeply strange. It had promise, but in my opinion it didn't pay off. It had production and creative control issues, particularly that McGoohan got a firmer hand on production as time went on. McGoohan got the ending he wanted over the objections of others. The show was the worse for it, imho, but is still worth a look for the reasons you state. It's an indelible piece of geek culture that is referenced constantly.

Speaking of people who should be wrestled to the ground before they can direct again, I returned 'Lost Highway' without finishing it a second time. A decade of perspective hasn't changed my initial impression - it's an unwatchable mess.
