Vacuum question

Do any of y'all have a Roomba? Do you find it useful, or do you wish you had a "regular" vacuum instead?

I had a roomba for a few years, when I didn't have a regular vacuum. I lived alone, in a small apartment, and didn't have time to vacuum much, and I loved it. It works well for light cleaning. I had one of the first generation ones though.. and they have probably been improved. My biggest gripe was that I have long hair, which gets everywhere, and the roomba picked it all up and wrapped it around its rollers (which admittedly happens to normal vacuum cleaners too) and I'd have to remove them after each room cleaned or poor Roomba would whine to a halt.

That's good information. I have shoulder-length hair myself, and yep, it gets everywhere. They do have a pet hair model now that comes with a brush for cleaning the rollers, so maybe that would handle it a little better.

LOL! I don't have a roomba, I think if I did have one, it would come out of it's little charger stand, look around and then just turn back around and plug back in, much like I do when I'm faced with cleaning the living room! That, and we have so much kid/toy clutter that the poor thing would be so totally confused, it would probably never get the whole floor.

Now if they could make one that could sniff out the cheerios and go right for them, I'd buy it!

LOL! As it happens, I have a first-generation Roomba, and I have been a shut-in with my newly acquired BSG DVDs. Very well timed.

I like my Roomba, but it's definitely for lightweight cleaning only, as the dirt collectors are teeny tiny, and want to be emptied a few times per trip around my living room rug. Okay, my house has plenty of cat hair to go around, and then some, so YMMV. The quantity of fuzz has even killed a reasonable quality upright, so I've had to keep the Roomba usage minimal. Of course, it is endlessly entertaining to watch it chasing the cats around. Serves 'em right for shedding so much. ;-)

*giggles* That's funny. I wonder if our furgirl would be wigged by it? I'm very glad to hear from a cat owner, as ours is Sheddy McShedShed. I know they now make a pet hair model, but I'd bet it's probably still in the lightweight category. Thank you for letting me know!
