Someone practices a random act of kindness

Free Hugs (YouTube link)

I saw this video, and it reminded me of how hard it is to yield trust ... I think living in the big city has made me a little harder. I know myself well enough to know that if I saw this on the street, the first thing that'd cross my mind would be to suspect that it was a distraction technique for the sign-holder's accomplice to pick my pocket.

I sure do wish I didn't think like that, though. I see something like this, and it makes me wish that I were a little more of a risk-taker in terms of vulnerability. I realize my caution is pragmatic, but ... seeing something like this reminds you that the world still has the potential to be a nicer place.

It's funny reading this and seeing that video becuase I was thinking along those lines this weekend. When I lived in S. Florida, there was a lot of "european-type" greetings. The kiss on both cheeks as a greeting. I have noticed that I pretty much have shyed away from anytime of hugging or "kissing" greeting unless I am close with the person since I moved back to Raleigh. I thought about how strange it is that I was so open to greetings in one area, but now I am so closed off to any type of open greeting being away from that culture.
I think that I would be suspicious of anyone wanting to give out free hugs and it's sad, because hugs are wonderful, but wierd when it's from a stranger on the street. Good link!
