Sharp writing

Sunset Boulevard stands the test of time remarkably well. Gloria Swanson was outstanding as Norma Desmond, but what really surprised me was how fresh the script remained despite its age. The movie is well worth seeing.

I'm not at all surprised that it was included on the American Film Institute's Greatest Movies list. Indeed, after seeing it, I'm surprised it wasn't ranked higher than #12. It would've been fine with me to swap it with The Godfather's slot at #3, but then, I've always thought that movie was a bit overrated. Well, first, I'd probably move On the Waterfront way up (I can only attribute its low placement at #8 to the Elia Kazan controversy), but with the stuff I'd relocate, Sunset would probably end up at #5 or #6. Definitely a classic.

I'm in love with this movie.

However, that was an ulterior motive to leaving a comment. Boo and I are going to visit Savannah the first week of Oct, and we definitely want to drive up and visit you two for dinner one night. Didn't know an email addy to send you to, so I figured I'd hit an older lj entry and tell you. Boo was really funny, "We're definitely going to have to meet Banshee IRL, she's just way too fucking nice to be true."

I just did a little dance at my monitor: I would truly love to meet both of you! I'm elated that you would make time in your trip for that! Shoot, I'd say that we'd drive to Savannah and meet y'all for some classic Southern cooking at the Lady and Sons, except we'll have just blown our vacation budget on the mountains a week or so before and D. won't have any vacation time left. I sure wish we could, though: I've never been to Savannah.

One potential hurdle: my mother's birthday is the first weekend of October, and I have got to go see her 'cause I accidentally blew it last year. Give me the dates you've got, let me call my mother (and talk to D.; he'd likely appreciate that), and we'll see what we can figure out.

Boo is far too generous and kind. Believe me, if we had a house, I'd be fixing you dinner with my own hands, not taking y'all out (and if we can arrange this, we will be taking you out. You don't come all the way to this side of the US without letting me do that.) :)

Imagined conversation with D: "Sweetie, you know those nice people that I've told you about that would be us if we were artistic and creative and had musical talent? Yes, that's right, the "Cumlazers!" composer and vocalist ..." :)

That's so cool, we're hella excited about finally meeting you guys. Boo says first weekend no problem at all, she's laying down the timelines. Drop me an email (it's on my userinfo page) and I'll fire back.

I'm so stoked!
