I hate the weather.

I hate the Atlanta traffic.

I hate the fact that I'm apparently surrounded by right-wing zealots ... that I'm part of less than a quarter of Georgia voters who think this sucks:

Gay marriage ban upheld

I nearly gagged at my monitor when I read this particularly insulting quote from Governor Sonny Perdue:

The governor also said that he hoped gay Georgians would not feel marginalized by the decision.

"I don't think it demeans gay Georgians in any other way," Perdue said. "They're free to work and live their lives; they're just not free to marry in Georgia."

That's about the equivalent of saying the following to an African-American man:

"Boy, you're free to work and live your life here in Jawja, you just cain't use that there water fountain that's marked 'Whites Only.'"

We're not all condescending rednecks here in Georgia. Just the disproportionate majority of the voting public.

*sighs*

Yeah......I just........ *sigh*

At least you don't work in a political office in GA where you cannot even think about speaking what you really think for fear of being fired. Wooooo for GA being a no-fault state. >.

*hugs* At least I get good pay and benefits to be surrounded by people who generally make me want to vomit, lol. And honestly, the sad thing is this job is 90000 times better than my old one as far as discussion of those kinds of topics goes.

Well, each job is a step. I do think Steve Jobs has the connecting the dots bit right.

I don't really discuss politics or religion much at work just 'cause that's how I was raised more than anything else ... it's just habit. Still, I totally know that even if I were grinding a political axe almost every day, I wouldn't get fired 'cause one of my co-workers does so frequently, and she hasn't gotten fired. It's just like ... that's separate, you know? As long as she does her job well, things are groovy. Her views don't affect her ability to put out good product.

There is good news in this. There was going to be a special session to get this back on the ballot this fall and the far right was going to use it as a "get out the vote" tactic. So silver lining maybe?
