Sixteen Brownies

I saw the following recipe over at Culinary Epiphanies, and I really want to make it (yes, I might actually bake):

Best Brownies

1/2 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

3 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup confectioners' sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan.

In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into prepared pan.

Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Do not overcook.

To Make Frosting: Combine 3 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 cup confectioners' sugar. Frost brownies while they are still warm.

I saw Sixteen Candles for the first time last night (no, I have no idea how I missed it during the Eighties) at the insistence of a co-worker who considers it to be his favorite movie. It was cute. What surprised me was how many faces who later became familiar were in it, including John Cusack, Joan Cusack, and Jami Gertz.

I kind of miss parts of the Eighties.

Dude, I have Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla in my cabinet. You could just about put that stuff on sand to make it more palatable.

I suppose one could compromise and frost the brownies from the mix, but that would feel like cheating.

OF COURSE YOU CAN FROST MIX BROWNIES! You can also add things like nuts, substitute peanut butter for whatever fat you're supposed to add (or just add peanut butter), chocolate chips, etc, etc. And if you find a good mix, you can end up with some really, really good brownies.
