King Kong

It's now in my top five movies of the year (not that we've had a lot to choose from, mind you). It beat the tar out of Narnia, as far as I'm concerned.

It was beautifully filmed: PJ really captured the lighting and style of movies from that era.

He also managed to turn B-movie content into an A-list flick, to the point that it was a lot of fun hearing the audience reactions in certain parts.

I've never seen the original, so I don't have that basis for comparison, but my husband says they were pretty faithful.

I was astonished to learn that Andy Serkis did Kong. Dang, I wish that man had gotten some special recognition at the Oscars. I also found myself wondering if Fran Walsh did the screams (I seem to recall from a LotR extras DVD that she's known for her bloodcurdling screams).

We also got trailers for V for Vendetta and Miami Vice.

It was just what I needed on a holiday weekend with too much to do.

I haven't seen Kong yet, but do plan on it. It looks pretty darn good.

And I really want to see V for Vendetta. From some advanced reviews it sounds like, despite some changes to the story, it's still probably one of the most faithful adapations of Alan Moore's work to date (which admittedly isn't hard). From what I've read, when the trailer says "Uncompromising vision of the future" they mean it.
