Reliving childhood programming

I was never very good about watching holiday shows at the time they aired. Much as I enjoyed classics like Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, it used to be harder to find out when they were scheduled, so I'd miss them more often than not.

Enter the DVR. It's been a wonderful means of wallowing in nostalgic holiday programming. Thanks to this nifty device, I've seen Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph's Shiny New Year, and A Christmas Story, with Frosty the Snowman pending. I only missed A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

It hasn't improved my seasonal efficiency, but it has been fun. Despite the house hunt horrors, I'm still very much in the Christmas spirit this year.

I've been wrapping gifts and writing cards in front of the TV all week... while watching Season 2 and 3 of Buffy :) Can't get more unseasonal than that!

See, it's hard for me to do stuff in front of the television set -- I find it too distracting in most cases. I can't wrap in front of it because it requires my focus to tape in the right places and not cut my finger off with the scissors, etc. :) If the given program is good enough for me to bother having the television on, I should be paying attention to it, or else I should turn the television off. Then again, I don't multitask well.
