More food talk

Tigers & Strawberries has a good post today that is filled with links to articles about schools that are adapting their lunch programs to fit within a Slow Food methodology. There's no sense in me reposting every worthwhile link, but I particularly liked certain parts of the Alice Waters essay she mentioned.

My lunch today included chowder that contained organically-grown corn and carrots. I made it myself, so I know how the individual ingredients were prepared. I didn't have the option of growing the raw materials, but I definitely feel better about eating it than, say, a Big Mac. Just speaking for myself, it was worth taking the time to prepare it. Taking my own advice, I'm not trying to bludgeon anyone or evangelize excessively. I'm just saying that while I realize that almost all of us eat junk food from time to time in this fast-paced world, myself definitely included, I do at least try to think about what I'm ingesting.
