Music Meme from arafel

Per arafel, go to musicoutfitters.com and do a search for the top 100 songs from the year you graduated from high school by typing "100 best 1988" or whichever year is appropriate for you. Underline the ones you like, and strike out the ones you hated. Like arafel, I'll bold the ones I liked most.

I was well into alternative music by 1988; this list only covers pop hits, so it's not really an accurate reflection of my music collection at the time, but there are a few songs that didn't suck.

The earlier half of the 80s was the better half, in my humble opinion.

1. Faith, George Michael
2. Need You Tonight, INXS
3. Got My Mind Set On You, George Harrison
4. Never Gonna Give You Up, Rick Astley
5. Sweet Child O' Mine, Guns N' Roses There was this girl named Jo in college who did the best Axl Rose impersonation with this song.

22. Shake Your Love, Debbie Gibson

I know it's as cheesy as Velveeta, but I can't help liking it. I remember riding on an indoor Scrambler with light effects and this song blaring and being just-out-of-high-school 18. It's a moment. :)

Look at the difference five years makes . . . Rap and Hip-Hop moved firmly into the mainstream by 1993, and I don't think there's one Rap or Hip-Hop song on the 1988 list.

Hell, in 1993 there were TWO VERSIONS of the same rap song on the list! ("Whoomp, There it is" by Tag Team and "Woot, There it is" by 95 South)

Tori Amos covers "Whoomp, There it is" sometimes in concert.

That's something I'd like to hear. I'll have to look around and see if I can find it. I stopped going to Tori Amos concerts when she started playing larger venues--I was just too spoiled by sitting seeing her in small venues to be willing to see her in a big arena or auditorium.
