Evolution, mmmkay?

Not that mere scientific evidence will change the minds of hardcore creationists, but I personally think this is pretty compelling:

"The vessels and contents are similar in all respects to blood vessels recovered from ... ostrich bone," they reported in a paper bring published Friday in the journal Science.

Birdies evolved from dinosaurs. Will the creationists try to rationalize that God was recycling materials, and just happened to use the same base in avians as He did in saurians? I wonder.

Silly Banshee!
There WERE no dinasaurs. Fossils are just there to test people's faith.

Surprise!!!!
In case you're wondering just who the hell this is, my dear... Banshee, just think about what Luddite friend of yours has a email address that is similar to "lexmaniac".

And of course that evidence will not convince creationists. "Intelligent Design" tries to masquerade as science, but it is essentially religious. In fact, that's my big beef with creationism - not that it is an attempt to get religion into the schools (which is perfectly appropriate in the proper context)- but that it is bad science! Creationism is not falsifiable, and therefore not scientific.

If this is a topic that interests you, ask me sometime about Stephen Jay Gould's essay on "Non-Overlapping Magisteria".

Re: Surprise!!!!
Go see your journal; I just posted in it. :)

Out of all my friends you are absolutely one of the ones I am most excited to see here. You write well, it's a wonderful way to stay in touch . . . I'm elated.

I am interested in hearing more, but I have to go cook right now (see previous posts). Hopefully you'll tell me in person on Saturday. :)
