I knew it

It's been rumored for over a year now, but it's still coming a hair sooner than I thought it might (I thought he might stay until just after inauguration).

Colin Powell Resigns

That's five Cabinet members now gone at the time of this writing. Isn't that an unusually high number to depart at once? It seems like it.

The numbers thing did seem high to me, but then I realized I don't really know what the typicial number of cabinet changes for a 2nd term is. I'd hate to find out the issue is just a media attention thing, but my instinct is still that it's unusual.

*nods* Same here! I don't actually know what the "typical" number is, either. I don't know if it seems high because it's being reported, or whether it's being reported because it actually is a good many at once.

Yep it's hard. Numbers alone aren't the issue really and at best they usually just point toward something that needs to be investigated. "What does it mean" is the key question and I don't think anyone really knows at this point.

Again though my gut feeling is that it doesn't look good.

Ashcroft resigns to be replaced by the guy who litterally wrote the book on the current governmental trend of casting aside the Geneva Convetions.

Powell is resigning and Rice it talked about as his probable replacement. Her being directly responsible for major mistakes in Iraq, and the war on Terrorism.

This kind of thing really just blows me away because it seems like the levels of incompetency are spiraling upwards. Everytime I ask "how bad can it get" I seem to get an answer. I'm not saying this IS disasterous, but I am saying that it doesn't look good.

It's not unusual at all. I wonder if you were so gravely concerned about Clinton's cabinet at the time? ;)

Oh, I had plennnnnnnty of concerns about Clinton. Heck, the rants I had about him in e-mail . . . I probably didn't even get to his Cabinet, which is why I don't remember it.

Of course, because of the way you started that sentence, I now cannot think of anything but the Tom Jones song, and am humming it. It's all your fault. :)

ARGH!!! I'm so upset over this! The one good guy in the cabinet of evil is leaving and being replaced by Rice - just when I thought it was bad, it gets worse.
