Kerry Insults Bush, Then Apologizes

Except it's Mrs. Kerry and Mrs. Bush that we're talking about, not the two people who are actually running for president.

Seems that Theresa Heinz Kerry shooting her mouth off back in July was no fluke; she's establishing a history of verbal gaffes:

THK Apologizes to Laura Bush After Job Comment

I'm still voting for Kerry, but his wife definitely isn't an asset to his campaign, in my humble opinion.

I know that some people consider this a non-issue. I don't. From my perspective, demonstrating grace and finesse under pressure, as well as showing competent knowledge of one's counterpart, is a very important quality for anyone in public life, especially when one is auditioning for a role that necessarily requires tact and diplomacy.

6:30 pm addendum: Laura Bush gives an extremely gracious response:

Asked about Heinz Kerry's apology Wednesday for what she said, Bush responded, "It didn't matter to me. It didn't hurt my feelings. It was perfectly all right that she apologized. She didn't have to apologize. I know how tough it is. And actually I know those trick questions."

non-issue may not be the correct term for everyone. I think it's a preferred trait, but it's not one that will change my vote. So it's a non-issue as to my voting stance, though I'll continued to be embarassed when things like this happen.

Heya! Yeah, I suppose if I were a truly undecided voter for whom it was a close decision, it might be a factor, but for me, it's not even close this election. Kerry is not my ideal candidate, but I can't even imagine how he could be worse than Bush.

I heard this on CNN this morning and was kind of shocked. I love Laura Bush and not a big fan of THK, but my vote is still not changed on voting for Kerry because I'm voting more for who will be President not based on his wife's dumb comments.

*nods* I'm kind of in the same position. I figure whichever one gets elected, we'll still have someone providing verbal blunders from the White House -- the only question is whether the blunderer will be Dubya or THK! ;)
